The Bluest Eye

by: Toni Morrison

The Bluest Eye is the story of three young girls. The shocking and interesting book goes through the struggles and experiences of being young black girls growing up in poverty. Pecola is one of the main characters who faces the harsh and wonderful experiences of life. She goes through fighting between her parents and molestation from her father. Pecola desperately wants blue eyes. Pecola feels that by receiving blue eyes she will be beautiful, loved and worry free.

It talks about the change from child to adulthood. The book explains how people view each other as well as themselves. The book hits many different perspectives from childhood pregnancy to the double consciousness theory. I like this book because it deals with the struggles of everyday life and I enjoy the way the author Toni Morrison can so swiftly describe the harshest things.
