My web page on solving a system of equations with two variables

Overview

This year I am learning about solving equations with two variables in Algebra. My teacher is Mrs. Owen, and she actually didn't like math as a kid but grew to love it while in college. We have just taken a test on the subject, and along with a few other students, I aced the test. To solve a problem with two variables is actually pretty simple.

Here is the addition and subtraction method of solving a system of equations by one variable.

You must multiply one or both equations so that one variable would be able to cancel out the other by addition or subtraction. Then you add or subtract the first equation from the second and you should have cancelled out one of the variables. Then solve the equation. Now that you know what one of the variables is, you should be able to figure out the other. Once you figure out both variables, check your answer to make sure the numbers satisfy the equations.

I have loved mathematics since I was a toddler and have grown to love it even more in eighth grade. Algebra so far is the most fun math topic I have been learning since Pre-Algebra in seventh grade. In Algebra, I feel that the most interesting topic all year is solving a system of equations with two variables. I feel that it is interesting because there is more than one way you can solve for the variables. Aside from the addition and subtraction method, you can also solve for the variables by graphing the equations. Whichever point the two equations meet at, you find the point's coordinates. The first number in the coordinate plane is the first variable and the second number is the second variable.
