I would say to try R1 instead... and if THAT doesn't work, then you may
want to take a look at the boards and double check that the numbers you
got from the installers are correct.
The serial number for the boards is on a sticker on either the
bottom-right of the SMART Board's bezel or the right side of the bezel.
If you still can't get the numbers to go through, let me know and I'll
call SMART for you.

- Common Room will be dealt with over the next few months, perhaps on our professional day on Friday May 16 or perhaps in the summer
- Reminder that you can only use the EXPO "smelly" markers on these boards, no other types! Will Olynick reports using kleenex does a good job of removing the residue from the board. Rob Sugarman said to me that it is safe to use any cleaning fluid intended for general whiteboards. It is also fine to use water, Windex or any liquid. Please put the liquid onto a soft cloth or kleenex rather than spraying directly onto the smartboard.
What we want to avoid, says Rob, are cleaners that contains abrasives. He said that while abrasives (e.g. toothpaste or Mr. Clean Magic Eraser or Mr. Clean Wipes) may superficially clean the smartboard and make it look nicer, the result will be that the smartboard will absorb the EXPO marker even deeper and make the cleaning more complicated. In some schools, say Rob, this becomes a vicious catch-22 cycle of abrasives and retention of marker color.

- I will have a "goody box" with Expo "smelly" markers and smartboard stuff for each teacher on Monday morning (Steve)
- In order to use the smartboard with the smartboard markers, your computer needs to be "boosted" with the smartboard software which is almost 200 megabytes. This takes 60 minutes and therefore, if you want to be a pioneer, it would save us time if you installed this software ahead of time
- To install on a Mac, click here
- To install on a PC, click here
- Yes, you want to install the gallery as well as the software ... if you do not know the administrative login and password for your pioneer laptop, send me a quick note ... if you want to see all the graphics (lined paper, maps, etc.) that you will have access to via the gallery, click here
- We will have whiteboard covers eventually with this logo. The covers are black. The graphic with text will be in white. The company www.tequipment.com is the
creator of this unique product.
- Click here for a three page handout on using a SmartBoard; however, please remember that a smartboard is more like a violin than a blender. I will be sharing several strategies for "learning to play the smartboard" since there is much more to it than the 3 important blender skills of MIX or CHOP or BLEND ;-) ... Steve

To clarify my thoughts about the Art room, I think we should permanently mount the existing 50" plasma display, hook up a VGA splitter so both the flat panel and the computer monitor can be used together or independent without unplugging either and supply two AirLiner Wireless Slates to be the SMART Boards in the classroom that the teacher and a student or two students can use to interact with the image on the flat panel display.

"Mya" or contact AT wirenyc.com ... I explained to him that we received a very generous donation and that we were hoping that they would be an extra set of eyes and ears for this project. Dan has agreed to respond to any emergencies and/or assist with any glitches in our plans. His cell is: 917-612-7480; I told him that you would follow up my conversation with him and touch base with him on more specifics regarding your needs from NYCE."

Sometimes the power supply to the speaker comes unplugged at the speaker. PLEASE CHECK TO SEE THAT THE SMALL APADTER WIRE IS FIRMLY PUSHED INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE SPEAKER WHICH HAS THE USB HUB BUILT INTO IT. Also confirm that the green light on the speaker in bright green , this will indicate the power is on. Do not be fooled by the light green glow that appears when the usb wire is attached to the speaker , this will produce a lighter glowing of this same LED. If you still have a problem , let me know and I will send someone to take care of it.
Thanks!
March 2008: gigathanks to
Rob Sugarman and Bill Luther from tequipment from Farmingdale NY for one of the most shocking acts of generosity we have ever seen on 129th street. Coming out on Friday 3/7 to do a routine walk-through and to choose 2 or 3 rooms for a mounted projector and smartboard, the two of them forced me (Steve Bergen) to sit down after 33 minutes so they could share the "facts of life" with me. Unwilling and reluctant I sat down and was shocked to hear that they wanted to put mounted smartboards and mounted projectors into each of our 15 classrooms at no charge, along with training our entire faculty. Speechless, stunned and shocked, it has taken me days to recover and understand the magnitude of this generous gift and the enormity of how it is going to impact our school. Cilck on the picture above to see their picture with several Storefront students in the computer lab.
