We began this unit because of our video conferencing relationship with Bill Ivey from Stoneleigh Burnham School in Massachusetts ... Bill introduced us to the annual poetry slam at http://www.literacyworkshop.org/poetryslam/ and a person there he works with named Keith Mack ... if you scroll to the bottom of this Web page at http://www.cstorefront.org/html/ you can see pictures of Bill's 10 grade 7 students and get a sense of our video conferencing relationship between their 10 7th graders and our 16 7th graders ... we taught their 7th graders the basics of HTML and they are now teaching us about CINQUAIN poems and more poetry to come ... Steve Bergen 3/4/08
p.s. we are now contemplating a second poetry VC relationship with a school in California called Mount Tamalpais School and two people there named Dave Baker (Dean of Technology) and Mitch Bostian (Dean of Faculty and Language Arts Teacher) ... we have found that video skype works wonderfully on Macbooks with their built in cameras

We now have an entry page in this poetry slam at the URL of
http://literacyworkshop.org/wpmu/storefront/ ... the login is "storefront" and I will give students the procedure for posting and the password ... here is what we need to do in addition to paying the fee ... All participating classrooms need to post a first blog message that provides information about their classroom. This can include like grade level, size of class and school, number of boys and girls in the classroom, favorite authors, poetry styles/genres studied, etc.
