The billion penny project was created at The Children's Storefront, an independent preK-8 school in Harlem. The Children's Storefront was founded in 1966 to provide a safe haven for Harlem children to engage in a variety of educational activities. Our school's URL is www.thechildrensstorefront.org and our billion penny project has been on NY1 television and CBS News. In keeping with one of our core values (concern for others), we invite those who donate any amount of pennies to reply to any of our videos with your own 1 minute video that advocates your organization as a candidate to receive 1% of the billion pennies ("that's $100,000"); your organization must be a registered non-profit. 10% of the 1 billion pennies ("that's 1 million dollars") will go to the 10 chosen organizations. Storefront may choose to terminate the project prior to achieving the goal of 1 billion; in that case 10% of the total amount raised goes to the 10 chosen organizations. A small group of Storefront adminstrators will select the 10 organizations once the project is terminated.
