Music Assignment given out 5/27 (Wednesday) to Grade 8 and due 6/3 (Tuesday, day before Field Day)
Music Assignment given out 5/28 (Thursday) to Grade 8 and due 6/5 (Thursday, day after Field Day)
Using QUICKTIME PRO which will be installed on all the BLACK MACBOOKS make a short clip from one music song related to the paper you wrote earlier in May ... to do this, you insert your musical CD and launch iTunes which may auto-launch ... you then navigate to the CD and UNCHECK all the songs on the CD except for the one tune that you wish to RIP ... before you RIP that one song, you want to create a folder on the desktop with your name and use ADVANCED PREFERENCES under ITUNES, then PREFERENCES then ADVANCED ... click CHANGE at the top right and POINT to your folder as the place where the song will be ripped
once your song is ripped, you quit out of iTunes
now find the file on your desktop and launch it into Quicktime ... you do this by holding down CONTROL and choosing OPEN WITH or you can drag the file to the Quicktime ICON in the dock
Quicktime Pro (black Macbooks only) allows you change the duration of the song by moving the left and right sliders ... the feature called PLAY SELECTED PORTION ONLY allows you to hear just the 20 or 30 seconds ... the feature called TRIM TO SELECTION removes the rest of the song ... now you will EXPORT (not SAVE) the file with your intials as a MOV file, for example JAD.mov
To post onto your Web page, open First Class and drag the file to your Web publishing folder ... you can use the standard A HREF command or the fancier one to automatically play on open command ... both commands can be found on our HTML page ...click here

PowerPoint Assignment given out 5/20 (Tuesday) to Grade 5 and Grade 6 due 5/27 (Tuesday) ... beware that there is no school on Monday 5/26 (Memorial Day)
You need to create a PowerPoint file that emulates the writing quiz sample that I showed you
It needs to be saved with our standard naming system, e.g. May21JaneDoeWriting.ppt and needs to be in your file server folder
The first slide -- the MAIN CARD -- should contain 3 sentences that are complete sentences ... if you are in grade 6, then 4 sentences
One of the sentences should be flawed. The others must be good sentences that satisfy standards of grammar, spelling and standard English.
When the user -- pretend Ms. Egmont -- clicks on each sentence, she gets told whether she guessed correctly and found the faulty sentence correctly.
In order to accomplish the above, you need to become a PROGRAMMER and use ACTIONS SETTINGS after highlighting the sentence or a portion of the sentence. You are programming each sentence to take you to the YES, YOU FOUND THE FAULTY SENTENCE or NO, YOU DID NOT FIND THE FAULTY SENTENCE card.
Extra credit? include one graphic with citation and program it to take the user back to the MAIN card
Here is a sample of a working PowerPoint ... click
